Our Mission

Empower cancer care providers to set a superior standard of cancer care and management in Pakistan.

We aim to do this by:

  • providing a platform for the learning and professional development of oncology professionals
  • raising awareness of cancer with the general public; in particular, we focus on early screening and preventative treatments.
  • encouraging indigenous cancer research in Pakistan to find contextual multi-disciplinary solutions for cancer-related problems in Pakistan.   

These actions will enable cancer care professionals to provide superior cancer care in Pakistan and lead to better outcomes for patients and their families.

Why should I become a member?

SMOP supports its members to improve their awareness and training of Medical Oncology. We will aim to provide:

  • Objectivity and scientific rigour in the analysis and application of medical oncology in Pakistan.
  • Educational activities in different formats to support different learning styles;
  • Focused based discussion with leaders of medical oncology from abroad and in Pakistan;
  • Annual awareness and networking events with practitioners from across Pakistan

Graduated from Dow Medical College, Karachi. Received his PhD in Immunology from Rush University, IL. Did residency at Nassau University Medical Center, NY followed by fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology from Winship at Emory University, Atlanta. Presently working as  Professor and Chairman of Oncology at Dr. Ziauddin Hospital.

Dr. S. Najeeb Niamatullah

Residency and fellowship from St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center, New York, NY (1992-1998). Diplomate American Board of Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hematology. Currently working as Consultant Hematologist and Oncologist at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation and Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Center. Secratary, Faculty of Medical Oncology, CPSP.

Dr. Munira Moosajee

Completed residency in internal medicine at Micheal Reese Hospital/University of Illinois at Chicago, Chicago, Illinois in 2007. Following that received fellowship training in hematology, medical oncology and stem cell transplant at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC from 2007-2010. Currently is an Associate Professor in the Department Oncology at the Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan.

Dr. Zeba Aziz

Research

Professor Zeba Aziz is a Diplomate American Board of Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hematology. She is currently Dean of Medical Oncology at the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP). She is a former Professor & Head of Department of Medical Oncology/Hematology at the Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore. She is a Member of WHO Expert Committee on the Selection and Use of Essential Medicines. She is also a Member of the Steering Committee and a Faculty member of ACORD (Australia & Asia Pacific Clinical Oncology Research Development Workshop).

Dr. Neelam Siddiqui

National Representative

Dr. Neelam Siddiqui is a senior consultant in Medical Oncology and supervisor of Medical Oncology training program at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Lahore since June 2005. She studied medicine at Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Lahore.  She later moved to the UK and after passing the MRCP exam, she received training in Medical Oncology and  Hematology at the Northern Centre for Cancer Treatment, Newcastle upon Tyne. She then accepted a consultant’s post in Medical Oncology / Hematology at King Khalid University Hospital.  Her areas of interest are breast cancer, ovarian cancer and lymphoma.
